Burnell Switchgear & Control renews successful partnership with Árón Taylor-Smith
We take great pleasure in announcing the renewal of the Burnell Switchgear & Control BTCC partnership with Árón Taylor-Smith.
The 2021 British Touring Car Championship saw Burnell enter the UK’s most prestigious championship as part of the ATS racing program as the Irish ace developed the all-new Cupra. Taylor-Smith is a proven race winner in the championship and 2021 saw him return to the series after a three-year sabbatical to focus on a GT program.
Taylor-Smith commented: “My heart has always been in the BTCC and I missed it when I stepped away from the series for a few years. The intentions were to always return as it is a championship like no other. I love being a part of it and even more so, love bringing new partners into the arena. I am enormously proud to get the opportunity to continue working with everyone at Burnell for this coming season as they were an absolute joy in 2021.”
Aron Taylor-Smith has signed a multi-year deal with Team HARD Racing to remain in the Cupra for the 2022 season. The 31 year old is a multiple race winner after notching his maiden victory in his debut season. He remained in the series for a further five seasons and accumulated additional wins and podiums during this period before embarking on a GT program. However, the fan’s favourite returned to the series in 2021 in the all-new Cupra. The 2022 season will be action packed season with a maximum capacity grid of 32 cars fighting for the most coveted prize in British Motorsport.
Taylor-Smith commented:
”One of the highlights of 2021 has to be having the Burnell team attend the season finale. I love getting the opportunity to work with companies who are as actively invested in motorsport as I am. It was great to welcome the guests along and for them to share in what the BTCC is all about.”
New for the 2022 season will be the Burnell Switchgear & Control branding on Taylor-Smith’s Cupra. It will be the first time that the company logo will be on display for millions to see on ITV and it is a fitting tribute to our company that is celebrating fifty years of business this year. A key part of the 2022 Burnell Switchgear & Control BTCC program will once again be centred on unique opportunities for the workforce and guests to experience the BTCC at the local track of Brands Hatch. They will get unrivalled ‘behind the scenes’ access throughout the 2022 season and see a whole new side of what motorsport is all about. The ultra competitive BTCC welcomed the addition of the new Cupra for the 2021 season and the Irish ace regularly battled his way to the cuff of the top ten throughout the season, making for some very exciting racing along the way and showcasing the hard work that the team had done building the new car. The first race of the season is on April 24th at Donington Park but keep your eyes peeled to both Taylor-Smith’s and Burnell Switchgear & Control’s social media channels for regular updates on the development of the Cupra during pre season testing.
